    Uzbekistan 13 Colombia

For an hour Uzbekistan looked like they belonged. A goal down at the break to Munoz, they refused to fold, and when Fayzullaev levelled just past the hour the Azteca briefly belonged to them. Then quality told: Diaz struck within five minutes, Campaz added a late third, and a one-one became a one-three that flatters Colombia more than the performance deserved. Thirty-nine percent of the ball, eight shots, only two on target — the margins were always thin. They were beaten by a better side, not an embarrassment, and Fayzullaev's goal is one to keep.

    Uzbekistan 05 Portugal

There is no soft way to read a five-nil. Uzbekistan were second to every ball against a Portugal side in ruthless mood, undone by Cristiano Ronaldo inside six minutes and never able to lay a glove in reply — a quarter of an expected goal across the whole afternoon. Their goalkeeper, four saves to his name, was the busiest man on the pitch and still conceded five. The margin is harsh on a group that is not yet decided. Better days, and gentler opponents, lie ahead.

Full time · The Report A dream start, then the gulf

    Uzbekistan 13 DR Congo

For ten minutes Uzbekistan dared to dream. Eldor Shomurodov's early strike gave them a lead, and briefly the form book was forgotten — but an expected-goals line of 0.27 to 2.35 lays bare what followed. DR Congo were simply the better side, equalising through a Yoane Wissa penalty before Fiston Mayele and Wissa again pulled the result clear. Uzbekistan managed only four shots all afternoon and spent the closing hour chasing the game. The bright start will sting precisely because it hinted at more. Beaten by a sharper, hungrier side, but not for a lack of early ambition.

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
