About Mexico
Population 134.4M
- Mexico's Mesoamerica is one of the world's cradles of civilization, where the Olmec and Maya rose on their own.
- Alongside Spanish, it recognises 68 Indigenous languages as national languages.
- It has more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any other country in the Americas — seventh-most in the world.
- One of just seventeen 'megadiverse' nations, Mexico ranks fifth on Earth for sheer variety of life.
- Its colonial silver mines were so rich they helped bankroll the global economy of their day.

Mexico 2–0 South Africa
Settled early and never seriously threatened, this was Mexico doing the professional thing at the Azteca. Julian Quinones struck inside nine minutes, Raul Jimenez doubled it just past the hour, and from there the home side managed a game that began coming apart at the other end. South Africa's two red cards turned a contest into an exhibition, and Cesar Montes's own dismissal in the ninetieth was a needless smudge on a clean afternoon. Two-nil, two goals, job done. They will face better-behaved opponents than this.

Mexico 1–0 South Korea
On a night when chances were scarce, Mexico needed only one to fall their way. Romo settled it five minutes into the second half, and a side that saw less of the ball — forty-three percent — found the cleaner edge in front of goal, four of their eight shots on target. South Korea had the better of the expected goals, 0.63 to 0.48; Mexico had the only one that counted. Not their most commanding night, but the kind of win that quietly builds a tournament.

Mexico 3–0 Czech Republic
For an hour Mexico were tidy without being dangerous, and then the dam broke. The expected-goals line, 1.79 to 0.47, is the real account of this game: the Czechs had more of the ball and more shots, but next to nothing of the quality, while Mexico simply waited for the moments that mattered. Marcel Chavez and Julian Quinones struck within six minutes of each other after the break, and Alvaro Fidalgo's stoppage-time third turned a comfortable night into a statement. Ruthless where it counted; this is the version of themselves Mexico will want to keep.

Mexico 2–0 Ecuador
Mexico landed their blows early and spent the rest of the night making them stand up. Julián Quiñones struck on twenty-two, turned provider for Raúl Jiménez nine minutes later, and a two-goal cushion was all the hosts would need. This was not domination — Mexico had just forty-three percent of the ball and created 1.02 expected goals — but it was ruthless, and Ecuador's frustration boiled over into a stoppage-time red for Piero Hincapié. The clinical edge that carried Mexico through the group carried them again. Into the last sixteen.

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
