Uruguay 1–1 Saudi Arabia
Uruguay laid siege and were held to a point, which in this tournament is starting to sound like a theme. Twenty-seven shots, ten on target, fourteen corners, two-thirds of the ball — and an Al-Amri goal against the run of play left them chasing for an hour. Maximiliano Araújo's late strike rescued the draw they had spent the afternoon demanding, but a Saudi goalkeeper making nine saves was the story they could not solve. They were comfortably the better side. The table will not say so. They have to start finishing these.

Uruguay 2–2 Cape Verde
Uruguay will not lose sleep over the performance — only the points. They racked up 2.28 expected goals to Cape Verde's 0.77, two-thirds of the ball and sixteen shots: every marker of control except the one that counts. Marcelo Araujo and Agustín Canobbio struck either side of half-time to lead, but Hélio Varela levelled in the 61st minute — and Uruguay thought they had won it soon after, only for an Araujo header to be ruled out for offside in the 68th. A draw that flatters the underdog. The finest of margins, and finishing, is what they left unticked.

Uruguay 0–1 Spain
Uruguay never really got going against a Spain side content to keep the ball and wait. With just a third of the possession and an expected-goals figure of 0.2, they offered almost nothing going forward, and Alex Baena's first-half strike was always likely to be enough. The night soured further when Agustin Canobbio was sent off in the fifth minute of stoppage time, a needless end to a flat afternoon. There is no shame in losing to a side of Spain's quality, but Uruguay will know they have far more than this in them.

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
