    Egypt 11 Belgium

Egypt walked into Lumen Field and outplayed a side worth nearly five times their squad for sixty-six minutes. Emam Ashour's goal, set up by Mohamed Salah, was no smash-and-grab — fourteen shots, seven corners, an xG of 1.07 against a Belgium that mustered only three efforts on target. Then Mohamed Hany turned the ball into his own net, and a lead built on real work dissolved into a point. There is no kind way to lose two of those. But they were the braver, sharper team here, and everyone in the building saw it.

    Egypt 31 New Zealand

For forty-five minutes Egypt looked like a side that had left its certainty at home; by the end they had three goals and the points. Finn Surman's early header for New Zealand was the jolt they needed. Ziko levelled just before the hour, Mohamed Salah put them ahead soon after, and Trezeguet — teed up by Salah — made it three. Nineteen shots to eleven and 1.96 expected goals: the dominance was always there, it just took an hour to show on the board. Salah, a goal and an assist, was the difference.

    Egypt 11 Iran

Egypt had the better of the possession and the worse of the chances, and will be relieved to escape with a point. They started brightly — Mohamed Saber turning in Trezeguet's cross inside five minutes — but Iran's response was swift and deserved. An expected-goals line of 1.83 to 0.81 tells you Egypt's sixty-one percent of the ball rarely became a clear sight of goal. They rode their luck twice: Mehdi Taremi missed a penalty, and a Saeid Khalilzadeh header was disallowed for offside in the ninety-third by the finest of margins. A point, and plenty to ponder.

Full time · The Report Held the nerve

    Egypt 11 Australia

Egypt were the better side for two hours and made it count from the spot. Emam Ashour put them ahead, and though an own goal handed Australia a route back into it, Egypt kept creating — 1.36 expected goals to 0.87, seven corners, the sharper edge throughout. When it went to penalties they did not flinch, winning the shootout four to two. This was control rewarded with survival. Egypt march on to the last sixteen.

    Egypt 23 Argentina

For an hour Egypt were writing the story of the tournament. Two goals up on Argentina through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Ziko, a Messi penalty missed, a place in the last eight almost in their grasp — and then it came apart. Argentina struck three times in the closing stretch, the last from Enzo Fernández in stoppage time, and a famous night turned cruel. Egypt even had a goal chalked off by VAR. They gave everything and go home with their heads high, undone only at the death.

    Goals 15' Y. Ibrahim · 67' M. Ziko · 79' C. Romero · 83' L. Messi · 90+2' E. Fernández

    xG 0.89–2.84 ·Poss 36% ·Shots 5 (2 on target) ·Corners 1 ·GK saves 4

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
