Kessié's goal put Ivory Coast ahead and Germany, for all their possession, kept running into a packed defence and a busy goalkeeper. Then Undav happened — twice. His leveller settled the nerves, and his second in the ninety-fourth minute turned a stumble into three points just as the doubts were hardening. An expected-goals edge of 1.83 to 1.23 says Germany deserved it on balance; the manner says they will need to be sharper. A win is a win. This one had to be earned.
