Full time · The Report Ruthless and clinical

    Sweden 51 Tunisia

Five goals from thirteen shots, and a finishing display that flattered the underlying numbers in the best possible way. Yasin Ayari struck inside seven minutes and again at the death, while Alexander Isak scored once and set up two more as the night's quiet conductor. An expected-goals figure of 1.36 became five on the board, which is what happens when chances are buried rather than merely created. Tunisia had their moment through Omar Rekik, but it never threatened the outcome. Nights this clinical do not come around often.

Full time · The Report More shots, fewer goals

    Sweden 15 Netherlands

Five-one will read like a hammering, and the scoreboard won't argue. But Sweden walked off having had more of the shots, more of the corners, and more efforts on target than the side that beat them — a strange, cruel kind of afternoon. Elanga's strike, set up by Isak, was the reward the hour deserved; everything around it was the Netherlands taking their chances while Sweden spurned theirs. An expected-goals line of 0.98 admits the chances were half-ones, not gilt-edged. The performance wasn't the problem. The finishing was, and it has to be fixed.

    Sweden 11 Japan

Sweden will feel this was two points dropped, not one earned. They carried the play — eight corners to two, five shots on target to three — and had Japan's goalkeeper as the busiest man on the field. Anthony Elanga's strike just after the hour, set up by Viktor Gyokeres, was the least their pressure deserved after Daizen Maeda had nudged Japan ahead. But for all the territory, the breakthrough came once and no more, and a goalkeeper in form did the rest. The performance says Sweden are close. The table records only that they are level.

Full time · The Report Second-best in every phase

    Sweden 03 France

Sweden ran into the tournament's best and were swept aside. They mustered an expected-goals line of just 0.65 and three shots on target, and only a nine-save night from their goalkeeper kept it to three. Kylian Mbappé's brace, split by a Bradley Barcola strike, told the story of a gulf in class no game plan was going to bridge. There is no disgrace in losing to the number-one seed. But Sweden are out, and they were second-best in every phase.

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
