About Turkey
Population 86.1M
- Turkey straddles two continents — a sliver in southeastern Europe, the rest in Asia — with Istanbul itself split across the Bosphorus.
- Göbekli Tepe was raising monumental stone circles around 9600 BC, thousands of years before Stonehenge — the oldest known temple complex on Earth.
- Parts of Anatolia lie in the Fertile Crescent, one of the very places where farming began.
- It's the fourth most-visited country in the world, rich in ancient sites and coastline.
- Turkish women won the vote in 1934 — early by the standards of the day.

Turkey 0–2 Australia
Thirty shots. Seventy-two percent of the ball. Nothing to show for it. Turkey laid siege to Vancouver and found an Australian goalkeeper having the afternoon of his life, eight saves and not a single concession. Sixteen of those efforts came from outside the box, the sign of a side throwing everything at a wall it could not breach, and on the counter Australia struck twice. The expected goals say this was close to even. The scoreboard, brutally, does not. They were the better side, and it counted for nothing.

Turkey 0–1 Paraguay
From the second minute on, this was a siege. Turkey had seventy-nine percent of the ball, thirty-two shots, and from half-time a man advantage too — and none of it counted. Paraguay's early goal and a night of desperate defending held, the expected goals a lopsided 2.1 to 0.32 that the scoreboard simply ignored. They were comfortably the better side; the table doesn't grade chances created, only the ones you take. A cruel and instructive kind of night.

Full time · The Report A thriller, won on nerve
Turkey 3–2 USA
Turkey won a game that swung like a pendulum, and on the balance of play they earned it. An expected-goals line of 3.21 to 2.01 says they were the more dangerous side even on a night the United States threw eighteen shots at them. Auston Trusty's early opener was cancelled out by Arda Guler and Burak Yilmaz before the half, Sergino Berhalter dragged the Americans level again after the break, and just when extra time beckoned Kaan Ayhan struck at the death. Five goals, two comebacks, one winner in the ninety-eighth. Tournaments turn on nights with this much nerve.

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
