Then Manzambi broke through, Muharemovic's red card removed the last line of resistance, and the dam gave way. Mahmic's late goal, scored against the run of play, will mean something to the travelling support even on a night like this. From an expected-goals line of just 0.64 they scored three, the kind of efficiency that travels further in a tournament than dominance does. Kenan Alajbegovic opened it, an own goal doubled the lead before the half, and Ermin Mahmic settled it late after Qatar had pulled one back through Hassan Al Haydos. Fourteen shots, a tidy night, job done. Qatar will rue a defence that switched off twice in five first-half minutes; the margin flattered no one.
